A long-term dream for mountain biking in Perth's north
The Lake Joondalup / Yalbunullup MTB Park project has been a long-term goal driven by NBCC's mountain biking leadership, volunteers and supporters. The club has worked with councils, government, businesses and authorities over many years to keep the project moving forward.
Local leadership
The project has been strongly championed by NBCC MTB Director Mark Papadopoff and the club's mountain biking community.
Government engagement
NBCC has worked with local government, Parks and Wildlife, DBCA and other stakeholders to progress planning and approvals.
Community benefit
The goal has always been to deliver a dedicated mountain bike facility for riders in Perth's northern suburbs.
Trail construction progress
As of the July 2024 update, trail builders were hard at work and rapid progress was being made, with the club working toward opening.

Years of planning, assessment and advocacy
2017 master planning
NBCC worked with DEPAW, WestCycle and local government around the Perth & Peel Mountain Bike Master Plan and a northern Perth XCO trail concept.
2018 grant application
The club prepared a City of Joondalup Sports Development Grant submission to fund site studies and concept planning.
2019 planning works
Contractors were awarded for dieback assessment and mountain bike trail concept planning, supported by the City of Joondalup grant.

November 2023 — Construction tender released
NBCC reported a major step forward: the tender for construction of the trails was released, marking significant progress after years of advocacy.
